After many years at our old venue (the vision centre), we have moved to bigger and better digs. Starting with the meeting on Monday, July 21st, 2008, Moonee Ponds Toastmasters will now meet at the Wingate Avenue Community Centre which is at:
13a Wingate Avenue, Ascot Vale, Victoria.
Close to Ascot Vale Road and Ascot Vale train station on the Craigieburn line. In your Melways: 28 G10 and see the map below:

Contests on for Young and Old!

It’s that time of year again – the club speech contests are on us again!
This year the contest will be held as follows:
International and Evaluation Contest
Monday, August 18th 2008.
Humorous and Table Topics
Monday, September 15th 2008.
About the contests
Club members are eligible for the international speech contest if they have completed at least six speeches from the CC manual. Each speech is 5 to 7 minutes long.
The Evaluation contest starts with a speech by a guest speaker from outside the club. They are then evaluated by each competitor in turn, after five minutes preparation time. The contestants will be ushered out of the room and re-admitted one at a time.
The Humorous speech contest is much like the International, with the addition that the speech must be funny! Note, it still has to be a speech, it can’t be a piece of stand up comedy or a series of jokes.
And finally the Table Topics contest also involves the contestants being ushered from the room and re-admitted, one at a time, to answer the question. The time is 1 to 2 minutes, slightly longer than a normal Table Topics answer. Also the judges will be looking to see that the question is actually answered!
There are strict rules about timing. Speeches over or under time will be disqualified.

Proposed New Venue

The members of Moonee Ponds Toastmasters feel we have somewhat outgrown our current venue (the Vision Centre, Essendon).
Our new venue is likely to be the Wingate Avenue Community Centre in Ascot Vale.
